The Grande École Track

HEC, ESSEC, ESCP — France's leading business schools weigh your interview and test score as heavily as your file.

The Read

What French B-Schools Actually Weigh

Top French Grandes Écoles treat the admissions interview as a primary evaluation tool, not a formality — panels are assessing composure, clarity of career direction, and how well you articulate your motivation in real time, in a language that may not be your first.

Standardised test scores (GMAT, GRE, or the Tage Mage for francophone tracks) are read alongside academic transcripts, and a strong score can meaningfully offset a less conventional academic background — these schools are more score-flexible than most US or UK equivalents, but not score-blind.

Career specificity carries real weight — an applicant who can clearly articulate why they want the finance, luxury management, or consulting track specifically, and how their prior experience supports that, consistently outperforms a generically strong but undirected profile.

French or basic conversational language ability isn't always mandatory for English-taught tracks, but demonstrating some effort toward it is often read as a signal of genuine commitment to studying in France rather than treating it as a fallback option.
