Yale's sticker price looks steep until you account for how much of the student body actually pays it.

Rankings and the real cost
Yale ranks 5th among US News National Universities and 11th globally on the ARWU 2025 table. Undergraduate tuition for 2025–26 is $69,900, rising to $90,550 with room, board, and other costs included. Graduate programs vary widely. The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences PhD is fully funded for five-plus years, while professional programs like the MFA in Drama run $39,500 and the Master of Architecture $64,400.
The gap between undergraduate and graduate funding models at Yale is worth understanding before you apply. PhD study through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences comes with full funding as standard practice, covering tuition and a living stipend in exchange for teaching or research work, which is a fundamentally different financial proposition from a self-funded professional master's degree like the MFA or Master of Architecture.
Why the sticker price isn't what most students pay
Yale meets 100% of demonstrated financial need and is need-blind for both domestic and international applicants, which is a genuinely rare combination globally. Roughly half of undergraduates receive need-based aid, and about 15% receive full support with no parental contribution expected at all. Fall 2023 enrolment was 12,093 students, split roughly 6,750 undergraduate and 5,340 postgraduate.
Need-blind for international applicants specifically is the detail that matters most for an Indian family evaluating whether Yale is realistically affordable. It means your application is assessed purely on merit, with financial aid calculated afterward based on demonstrated need, rather than your ability to pay factoring into whether you're admitted in the first place, a policy most universities, including several other strong US schools, don't extend to non-citizens.
Deadlines and outcomes
Early Action closes November 1, Regular Decision in January. About 71% of graduates are employed within six months of finishing, with 17% moving directly into further graduate study.
Yale's Early Action is non-binding, meaning an early acceptance doesn't commit you to enrolling, unlike some other universities' binding early decision programs. This gives Indian applicants genuine flexibility to apply early for a faster decision while still comparing offers and financial aid packages from other universities before committing.
